Icky and Ickier

The other day I threw this old oil painting of mine, called Pupating, into a standard Photoshop filter called plastic wrap or plastic bag or something.

Using basic Photoshop filters can be considered a bit of an icky cheat in some illustration circles. Still; I think it adds something, don't you?

Where did you get the inspiration for this piece? (And, yes, I agree that Photoshop is a great tool, and I, honestly, don't think of it as a "cheat" at all. Every artist has his/her medium be it video, literary, performing or visual.)

At the time, I was painting lot of people with green skin - it appealed to me somehow. The actual painting is in a black metal box, lining the interior with wire wound around it like it's trapped in there.

I don't know exactly what inspired it: I was doing a lot of paintings and drawings at the time with pupating insects, chrysalis, acorns, and embryos. Lots of living potential, growing.
