500th Flying Trilobite Post

Haldane's Precambrian Puzzle © Glendon Mellow 2010

This marks the 500th post here on the Flying Trilobite since I began blogging about my artwork back in March 2007.  Thank you so much to everyone for their support and comments and commissions over the past almost-4 years! I had no idea what I was getting into when I started blogging, but it has literally changed my life.

I thought I'd mark this post by including some links to a few posts I consider noteworthy.

Triloblogiversary Cubed!

Three years ago today, The Flying Trilobite launched. Happy Triloblogiversary Cubed!

Thanks to everyone who comments, supports and encourages my every whim. Next year though, I expect fealty and a percentage of your harvest. By then the Mythical Flying Trilobite Fossil will have grown to Mothra-like proportions.

Thanks for sharing in my awe of science through art. That was an awkward sentence.

Apparently the spellchecker has a problem with "triloblogiversary".
And "spellchecker".

Happy Flying Triloblogiversary to me...

Two years ago today, The Flying Trilobite began. A lot has happened since. I have back-posted a new "About" page which covers many of the highlights.
Last year, we celebrated with cake.

This year, I will be launching a swanky new blog banner. Another Mythical Flying Trilobite Fossil painting on shale, but with a bit of a twist. More deets tomorrow for Art Monday.

Oh, and I have pie! Celebrate with coffee, pie, and the music of Julee Cruise! Cue the bas
s: derm derrrmm...derm derrrrrm...Warm, hearty thanks to my readers, commenters, lurkers, blog peeps, ScienceOnline session attendees, and art patrons; friends, familiy and most of all my wife Michelle who 'gets' what I am trying to do and encourages and inspires my work at each turn.

When waiting for my flight back to Toronto from ScienceOnline09, Nature Network guru Henry Gee asked me if blogging had changed my life.

It most certainly has. The degree of intellectual and artistic fulfillment I have gained rushed in to fill a void whose dimensions I had not been aware of before. I began The Flying Trilobite as a way to self-promote my art and artistic skills , which is still a major purpose for me, and I've also been enveloped by community. It's a challenge to keep up with the clever heavyweights in the science, secular and artsy continents of the blogosphere. I hope my paintings continue to inspire and find a place of interest.

What's in store for year 3?
Watercolours!
Digital painting!
Casting sculpture!
More t-shirts!
More portraits!
More human figures!
More lack of sleep, more coffee, more yearning to do art for a living, more Beagle-y goodness, more naples yellow...

1st Blogiversary of The Flying Trilobite

...and this time, instead of paintings, I have photos.

The Flying Trilobite began as a way to promote my artwork and find new commissions and collaborations. It has also turned out to be a terrific outlet for my intellectual growth and artistic development; I am constantly engaged by new ideas I read from the scientific, Bright and arts communities. As I mentioned in my year-end round up, I also discovered a welcoming community of creative and shiny people online.

So, let's celebrate with cake, shall we?!

Uh-oh. The Mythical Flying Trilobite Fossil found it first. Yummy!

Thanks again to everyone who has made it such a great 1st year. If you keep viewing and commenting, (and commissioning!), I'll keep painting. Deal?

Let's eat cake.

(No monarch butterflies were harmed in the making of this blog post. At least - not harmed by me. What you are seeing are wings found lying in a park last summer with some ants on the sticky bits. Perhaps a bird or dragonfly was responsible, but it was mainly only the wings left. Scouts' honour.)
