Umm.

Oh what the heck. I look like this now.

Expect tweaking to follow.

Greg, I always did just like jumping in the pool without testing the water.

I rather like the clean look -- and I cannot praise highly enough your abandonment of chartreuse-on-black text.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this evolves. Hmm. I oughta class my joint up some myself.

I liked the old look. Just moving toward better readability.

Besides, now it looks like an art gallery or hospital. Pristine and white.

I can still be gothy with mostly white, right?

-Thanks Sean. Remind me to send you a chartreuse on black Christmas card in December.

-Raptor, we'll have to see. Not done .

-Thanks Traumador. I think change was just in order. This is almost there.

Sorry, man -- light type on a dark background makes my eyes shiver and bleed. (My bad eyes make a whole lot of design choices for me, said Mr. Whitespace...)

Sean, I think you are not alone. It's an important enough reason to switch.

It also moves the focus to the art, a suggestion from Greg Laden. We'll see if it helps.

Don't worry, you can still be gothy with black on white. Make sure to include many phrases about the darkness in your soul. :)

Great meeting you at the conference!! I don't suppose I could beg you into possibly submitting a design for our new banner? Our site needs some aesthetic appeal.

I'm just curious on why you changed the color on the blog.

Hmm, good advice Scicurious.

So please contact the darkness in my soul by email about the banner, and we can talk. theflyingtrilobite(at)gmail(dot)com.

Hey Raptor.

I've thought about it off and on. Another scientific illustrator once remarked they don't read blogs with dark backgrounds and light text. It made me think, but I was fond of the distinct colour scheme. You knew it was mine as soon as you logged in, and the greens made me happy.

At ScienceOnline09, I attended "Blogging 102" moderated by Roger Harris. So I asked the group of attendees. Multiple people confirmed it, including one well-spoken gentleman who pointed out a lot of people treat their blogs like a work of art, only looks good from a distance. Wish I'd gotten his name.

So. Outside later on, Greg Laden, made some comments he thought the artwork isn't displayed as well as it could be, or something to that effect.

I thought about it on the way home.

Plane delayed, walking through slush with luggage, arrived home, wife asleep, logged in and swapped it out. Feels like an art gallery.

I'm not finished changing it yet though...

:-)
