"I am the series editor for The Open Laboratory, the annual anthology of the best writing on science blogs. For the 2006 and 2007 editions we used some nice but uninspiring art for the cover of the book. But in 2008 I decided to have a contest for the cover art. Glendon Mellow won it easily with his Darwin Steps piece, and then proceeded to work with me on the entire presentation of the cover art. When the book was published, many commented on the beauty of the cover, so we decided to keep it, with very slight modifications, for the 2009 edition as well. Glendon is a master artist, and a pre-eminent science-artist blogger, and it was great pleasure working with him on this project. I hope we will work together again soon.”

"Glendon is a very talented artist, conceptually creative and skilled with traditional and digital media. Glendon was also very easy to work with, and gave me a final piece of painting-turned-digital art that was even better than I had originally pictured in my mind."

"I have been a fan of Glendon's now for at least three years. I find his creative way of combining the facts and process of science and art are embedded with an understanding of the philosophy of science that ties it all together. Recently he painted a piece and ran a contest for his readers at The Flying Trilobite blog, inviting people to guess at the symbology and the meaning and several people joined in. He draws his viewers into a world of art and science and evolution with a unique visual 'voice'."

"The tattoo itself was lovingly designed (to Sci's very very annoyingly exacting demands) by Glendon Mellow of The Flying Trilobite. I think he did a fabulous job!"

"The Art Critic: Glendon Mellow's work covers that rarified space where science and art overlap. His blend of classic technique to illustrate scientific principles or ideas with verve and originality. Glendon's art shatters conceptual limits to astonish and educate scientists and general audiences alike.
"Me: Kicks ass!"
