Art Monday: invert. No, the other kind of invert.

Sometimes I like to invert pencil drawings. It allows the artist to view the pencil strokes with new eyes, revealing the contrast and altering the mood. It makes the familiar unfamiliar.

More after the jump.

You may have seen last week I altered my blog, shop and portfolio to be black, and changed the header image to match.  Although I love the artwork on a black background, it just felt to harsh in contrast, and I switched back to the art-gallery-wall-white.

Nice drawings Glendon, yes inverting hand drawn images can be very fun to do, often i find it creates a chronological record of the pen strokes that just doesnt seem to be visible when viewed in the regular format.

Marco.

Thanks Marco.

It's almost as usefyul as looking at things in a mirror.

Good point about the pen strokes.

(Hey, I wanted to email you something, but couldn't find your email, Marco...contact me?)

Your work is quite amazing and inspiring. I hadn't known about it until recently.

At your gallery site the pop-up description for the caffeine tattoo has a truncated URL. It was easy to find the right one though, http://scienceblogs.com/neurotopia/2010/05/in_which_sci_gets_inked.php.

It is unfortunate that "twitobites" is not (by the usual rules) pronounced "tweyetobites". "twilobytes" is a rhyme, but then less of the resemblance to "twitter" is there. It's a conundrum.

Thanks for the compliments, Oedipus! Feel free to explore. I should have some "making of" posts going up soon which some people find interesting. Always open to critiques and questions too.

I checked that broken url: thanks. It appears there's more than one. I'll fix 'em.

Yeah, good point! But there's something fun about "twih"-tobites.

Posts over 14 days old have their comments held in moderation - I've been getting an unusual amount of spam for a guy who paints trilobites. I'll release it lickety-split though.
