Just a tiny peek.
This is a portrait I am doing of Richard Dawkins. Much of my work for many years has been inspired by his science writing, particularly River Out of Eden. I hope to have the finished work completed soon. (Soon being a loose and playful term.) It is an unauthorised tribute.
I welcome comments.
"Painting is the art of protecting flat surfaces from the weather and exposing them to the critics."
-Ambrose Bierce
Has the gravitas of Dawkins, tad stern looking though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lim. Yeah, I know what you're saying. I may change it to show his smile, a bit like a smirk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking it out.
Ooh the anticipation! I'm looking forward to the completed portrait.
ReplyDeleteYou have great artistic skill and a great blog. I write a science blog called Fresh Brainz mainly about evolutionary biology, some neuroscience and a bit of art as well.
Would you like to exchange blog links?
Best regards!
Thanks for the compliments, Lim!
ReplyDeleteI checked out Real Parables for the Modern Person after your first post...I'd like to link to both. The fibreoptic tree of life is just too good an idea.
Maybe you could build it in Kentucky, across the street from another building there, hmm?
Thanks for the links! I'll check back often.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
I like it! I want to see it when it's completely done because this little slice of it is really not satisfying at all :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Annie. I've been painting most of today trying to get it through its "ugly phase". Most of my paintings go through a period of colour layering where I can't stand them. Slowly, the finished piece will emerge. Or I go bonkers.
ReplyDeleteCame in to look around. Love the quote about painting being a way of 'protecting flat surfaces from the weather and exposing them to critics'.
ReplyDeleteReassuring to know that 'the ugly phase' is a real animal. I go through it, too. Push on.
Yeah, the Ugly Phase is only beaten down by perseverence. But really Leslie! Your process with the Christmas Fairy was elegant and frameable the whole way through! I hope you don't mind a link from me to you. Fantastic work.
ReplyDeleteSorry Trilobite..I lost you!
ReplyDeleteOf course you can link to me. I truly apologize for losing your blog. It is in my favorites list, and then I went and alphabetized them! I hate that when that happens.
The portrait is still chugging along. I hope to have something more complete in the next couple of weeks.
