The person came in, told us money was no real matter, she just wanted the best paint. The. Best. Like if she wanted to paint the Mona Lisa, it would be that good.

She was new to painting. Hadn't ever done oils before. We showed her the top quality stuff as well as gently suggested some of the student paints in case she found she didn't enjoy her new endeavor.

Talking about it with staff after, we all agreed that it doesn't matter how good the paint was, she was unlikely to paint as well as da Vinci.

I think the same is true of these new apps. Amazing work can be done with them, but it's not all about the tools. It's how well you know how to use them. I'm still exploring/floundering with iPod and iPhone apps (I have 4: Brushes, Sketchbook Pro Mobile, Sketch Club and now ArtRage)and my finger being in the way is a large hindrance. I probably need to invest in a stylus.

But I look at some artists' work, like say, Eric Orchard and they do amazing stuff - just like when they paint or draw with traditional media.Glendon Mellowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03582347493421110738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-978531190643365040.post-88016018767447249822012-01-08T19:32:28.590-05:002012-01-08T19:32:28.590-05:00Piet, always glad to support skepticism and atheis...Piet, always glad to support skepticism and atheism, but that's kind of spammy, dude.Glendon Mellowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03582347493421110738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-978531190643365040.post-80595004812510169192012-01-08T11:36:24.763-05:002012-01-08T11:36:24.763-05:00painting applications on things like the iphone an...painting applications on things like the iphone and ipad scare me, will these applications demean the value placed upon the skills of digital artists if anyone can download an app and start calling them selves da vinci?Marco Meredithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08561797747789433486noreply@blogger.com
