And once again I'm struck by the painter's visual approach, the fields of smoothly graded tone. It's as though you're painting with the pencil. Very pleasant to behold.

That's a swell Opabinia -- it's really got that touch of live to it. It's funny how the stuff drawn without reference sometimes has a greater liveliness to it even if it's not as quite as accurate.

Wow - I LOVE the fly wings on the trilobite. They look perfectly delicate.

After now spending a good amount of time digging through your stuff, I must say I'm consistently impressed and awed. Makes me want to break out the old sketch pad.

Thanks Sean! I wanted to play with the tail a bit. Maybe a fish-herding fin? Anyway.

I think the smudginess you like os from using a smudger/tortillon. I agree about the lack of reference adding something. The picture flows instead of halting for corrections.

Thanks Irradiatus! (Am I supposed to avoid your real name?) You should always always break out the old sketch pad. I can constructive criticism too, so don't be shy. ;-)

As always, awesome!! It looks great especially with the way it seems to "blend" with the blog background. It's kinda like you drew them on the blog itself. I like it.

Oooh, I love the Opabinia as well. I thought Anomalocaris at first, but then I realized that the mouth-parts just wasn't the same. The shading really brings it to life, and I again envy these skills.

It was good meeting you, too. Take care.

Raptor, that's one advantage of the black background, for sure.

AlexL, thanks for the kind words! It's an inaccurate opabinia-ish creature, whatever it is. The type of doodle the airport brings out.

Glad to talk with you. Love your photos I've seen so far.

The new blog color is Stellar, I may have to change mine to white now.

Later days,

Thanks Chris! But who is it a portrait of?

Glad you like the white. It's growing on me. Plus, I can get a suntan from my laptop.
